Default "Rita (gored engine)-ed My Day"

Rita happens. Fact of life. Where I live was pretty much reconfigured for non-living status. The power went out at 4 a.m. on Saturday, and the electric company is broadcasting notices that it will be thus for the next 5 to 10 DAYS as of yesterday before I can fry an egg, wash my laundry, or enter Ascalon Arena to annoy people who hate warrior/monk builds.

Walmart (not one of my favorite places anyway) was SHUT DOWN by the feds here, because there were 4 deaths associated with fighting over BOTTLED WATER (brilliant, mankind, simply brilliant). Thanks to my Eagle Scout and military background, I was spared the need to argue with Billy Bob Mcwoodsman over whose shadow was larger, etc. I have been living in the apartment @ 89-90 degrees by day, and roughly 87 by night. No AC. No ability to run a generator because there is no gasoline for 50 miles all arund me. The storm (rita and her bastard offspring) wiped out the grid for 25 blocks, and there are large pine trees in people's gaming dens, kitchens, and sedans.

In total, between nature and people killing, 23 people have become one with Grenth here. One lady died on friday night, but due to her location, no one could ACCESS her home until this morning, so you can imagine waking up to that SANKA commerical. *sigh*

Refugee's fill the eateries, and the hotels are all booked until Christ returns. There is no bread or ice for miles, until yesterday at least, and even that is fighting a crowd like what left the Sudan in their time of woe.

So yeah, life is peachy and the grubs they are a feastin.

I am typing this in the local college computer lab, as I just spent 2 hours ATTEMPTING to use a stylus and do it by way of wifi on my PDA, but each time I would click submit new thread, I am told I am not logged in. Lovely. 30 mins to type what would take me 5 on here. I shall invest in a PDA keyboard hoolup soon.

Anyhoo, to those of you in this area of Texas (east and southern east) I pray you are doing well, and are spared the greater horror that is "people panicking and acting like nutballs". I hope your families are safe, and that you can get back to your digital lives asap.

Until then, I might be on here off an on at the college, but there are lots of people here wanting to use the machines, and they are drooling. I suppose they miss their myspace crack addictions....Who knows.

Saluud, and stay safe!
-Sot

P.S. - WIFI really kicks ass when you can type

Well, good to know you're at least *safe* and were (relatively speaking) unharmed. I hope your living space wasn't affected beyond the power! Stay safe.

Hehe, Rita was the most anti-climactic thing ever here in Houston. Like 2 million people evacuated. I remained in my home, and all that happened was about 1 inch of rain and the power going out for 20 minutes. It was pathetic. Kinda sucks for people who were further to the east though, as it hit some people really hard.

Yeah my father went overboard and started putting water in every container possible. I went to a friend's house for the hurricane, but I should have stayed home, for the power didn't go out there. >.<

It should start getting cool soon and legendary 2 million people evacuated Houston because at first Rita was going to hit Houston head on... until it turned to the east, so those people were smart by leaving.

Thank you news networks for oversensationalizing and causing more of a panic than necessary.

It's like I heard somewhere... they acted almost disappointed that it didn't cause more damage. Great stuff.

I can only imagine what's it's like to go without power for that long. I went without power for 8 hours and thought it was horrible. XD

I've done the no power thing for 6 days in a row before from an ice storm. Add onto that the fact that the roads were pretty much untravellable and a huge branch from a Carolina pine decided to make my guest room its new home via the roof and ceiling... I feel your pain and am glad things worked out for yourself in the end. I hope your community recovers soon.
